Pests contaminate food, kitchen equipment, and other surfaces. According to the National Pest Management Association (NPMA), common household pests can spread diseases like Zika virus, West Nile virus, Lime disease, malaria, Ricky Mountain spotted fever, and Hantavirus encephalitis.
